Bob Parsons Blogs With Serendipity

Wed, 26 Jan 2005 10:20 UTC

I found it interesting, after clicking a link to his blog on the Go Daddy home page, that Go Daddy founder and president Bob Parsons uses PHP-powered Serendipity.

While I am a strong supporter of WordPress over Serendipity—and please don’t ask me for particulars at this point, but I’ve tried them both and I like WordPress best—I admire Serendipity because its development team consists of some of the more well-known names in the PHP community: Sterling Hughes, George Schlossnagle, Wez Furlong, and Sebastian Bergmann to name a few.

Parsons could’ve elected to use any number of popular blogging software out there, software that executives and celebrities tend to pick such as Movable Type, TypePad, Blosxom, and Blogger. Instead, he chose a PHP application, and the PHP community is all the better for it.

Way to go, Bob Parsons! Way to go.

Word press is very usable, simple, clean and great :) I loved wordpress so much, until I wanted to write a plugin to filter comments. The internal API is a mess. That’s why I want to move to s9y when I have sometime.

I heard that in the newer versions of wordpress the dev team well enhance the API.

Yeah, I like the clean design of the admin interface, but I’ll admit that I’ve not tried to write any plugins for it or hack it. I am using the 1.5 beta, though, and it’s very nice.

I don’t know what the dev team has in mind, but Dougal Campbell (a member of that team) lives about 15 minutes away from me, and I’ve yet to meet him. I should probably look him up and see if he wants to do lunch one day.

Hi, I got here from Tom Sommer’s Weblog…

I tried Wordpress but it lacks a lot of cool features s9y has. The strenght of Serendipity lies on the plugin system, the templating system, the easy installer and the very cool friendly urls with mod_rewrite. Still, I think Wordpress is way cooler than Movable Type.

This guy made a good choice like any other who chooses s9y for his blog…

Regards!

I’m not entirely sure what the differences are, then. Wordpress has the same: a good plugin system, a templating system, an easy installer, and friendly URLs with mod_rewrite (as you can see from my own site). These are all the reasons I chose Wordpress over s9y (of course, I chose it over a year ago, and maybe s9y has since improved).

So, are you saying that I made a bad choice? ;-)

Not really, I’m just saying he made a good choice… I like WP over MT, but I still think s9y has its strengts over the those two but is just my opinion.

WP didn’t seemed to me to have such a cool plugin system, the coding was kinda messy as I recall, but I heard they wrote it from scratch so it might have improved.

I wouldn’t be Bob Parsons’ friend if he paid me. The man harbors spammers for a living.
